HISTORY
The second son of Councilor Reston of Kanemoria, Scott was always a bit of a problem child. Born to a family with high expecations, none of which suited his own goals, his childhood was little more than a series of disappointments of increasing severity. It began early on, when Scott showed little interest or aptitude for the study of magic, a fact that disappointed his father (because the High Prince had taken that route, after all) and his mother alike (because the study of magic is much more dignified than bashing about with a pointy stick, isn't that so?) He rebelled when 'encouraged' too strongly, taking an interest in the sword, instead.

The second disappointment came soon after his eleventh year and the subsequent assassination of his elder brother, Thomas. Scott insisted that he would be a knight or a guardsman, at least, defending his country -- and his family, constantly at risk due to his father's precarious position. His parents viewed this decision with disdain -- they were raising politicians, after all, or at least men of certain influence, and if the political arena was not what he wanted, could he not at least content himself with more scholarly persuasions? They berated hischoice in their own ways, and Scott strugged with their expectations and his desires. However, with Thomas gone, he was now their eldest son, and best hope of recapturing the Kanemorian throne -- something Scott wanted absolutely nothing to do with.

The third disappointment came when, seventeen and fed up with his parents' growing insistence that he compete with the High Prince as his father had with King Reuben in their youth -- not to mention quite literally fearing for his life -- Scott collected his savings, left a note of apology with his surviving siblings, and simply left. He had no destination in mind, knowing only that he wanted to be as far from Kanemoria and its ridiculous political circus as possible.

With little to make his livelihood -- that interested him, in any case; business was off on sheer principle, by that point -- he took to relying on his sword, and soon became a mercenary. Nine years have passed, since then, and through them Scott has taken countless contracts, seen most of Eire, and even returned to Kanemoria every now and again, even if he makes a point of avoiding it where possible. His experiences have left him a much different man; the rash, angry youth who ran away from home has become a bitter, sullen man, pretending at fullfillment in the hopes of proving his parents wrong.

PERSONALITY
Once a driven, exciteable boy with high hopes and the self assurance only childhood can preserve, Scott's struggles against his parents' will have left him flattened and hard, with nothing left of his former fire except a dull spark fueled more by defiance than anything else. He's bitter and sullen, and has been fired from more than one contract thanks to a drinking habit he picked up somewhere along the way -- which hits him harder than it should, he knows, thanks to his delightful habit of growing far too attached to his employers. He takes everything personally, including his job, and his failures crush him, while his successes are discounted with hardly a glance.

He regrets his decision to run away, but is too stubborn to return, collecting bits and pieces of information instead where he can to keep up with the status of his family. He's kept in touch with his sisters, particularly Francine, who too left Kanemoria as soon as she was able, on the condition that they never report to the rest of his family of what he's been doing. As for his brother, Christopher, his close ties to their parents have kept him away, despite the closeness they shared growing up, and it is perhaps this loss that he regrets most of all.

APPEARANCE
Scott takes firmly after his mother when it comes to appearance; his fair skin and black hair reminiscent of her features. He has blue eyes, and his nine years as a mercenary have given him a healthy build; that, along with his height, make him somewhat of an imposing figure, benefiting his work, if nothing else. He stands at six feet even, and is usually seen either scowling or brooding, depending on whether his mood is bad or worse.
